In a professional blacksmith shop at the base of the Wyoming Big Horn Mountains
Arrowhead Forge is a working blacksmith shop and school operated by David Osmundsen and Debbie Norman. David started forging hot steel in the 1970’s and because of many requests from folks to learn the craft, opened Arrowhead Forge School of Blacksmithing in 2004. Since that time there have been folks from all parts of the U.S., Canada, Scotland, China and Australia, most with no experience at all, coming to the quaint little western town of Buffalo, Wyoming for one to four weeks of instruction. You can find further information about our class offerings here >
When not teaching or demonstrating blacksmithing David is creating one-of-a-kind forged iron pieces for sale. Using the same skills taught in his classes he forges a variety of cooking accessories, home furnishings, lighting pieces, tomahawks, frontier knives to list a few. To view work that is completed and offered for sale through the website check out our store >

Dave is a great instructor
His class is informative and very hands on. He works well with all skill levels. He takes pride in his work and his school, planning every detail down to a delicious lunch onsite each day. I am confident in my abilities going home because I performed the skills myself instead of just watching or swinging a hammer for an instructor. This is one of the best classes I have ever taken and the best money I have spent on a week long class.

We are so impressed with Davids teaching methods
My husband is finishing his second class today. We are so impressed with Davids teaching methods and the amount of experience he has. It is truly an art that more people should learn. I look forward to working with him as well!

I would recommend this course
I took the tool smithing class and had great success. David limits his class size to 3 students which makes for great one on one instruction.

When not teaching, David is creating ornamental and functional works of iron, often adding figured hardwood and locally sourced deer and elk antler. The shop he works and teaches in is made up of both antique and modern tools and equipment and many of the techniques used are centuries old. These one-offs, when available, will be shown and offered for sale here. What is pictured is the actual item you will receive.
